Can You Have an Affordable Doctor Visit Without Insurance?

Knowing you need to see a doctor but not having the insurance to cover the cost can put you in a tricky situation. You need the care, but you don’t need the additional expense. Many people put off medical treatment because they aren’t sure they can afford it—but delaying a trip to the doctor could lead to bigger health concerns (and financial issues) down the road. The question is, is it feasible to have an affordable doctor visit without insurance?

The answer is simple: Yes! At East Adams Rural Healthcare, we believe that your access to care shouldn’t depend on whether or not you have insurance. We offer several programs and payment options that can make medical care more affordable. If you need a doctor visit without insurance, here’s what you need to know.

Booking a Doctor Visit Without Insurance

If you’re not feeling well, you can (and should!) see a doctor whether or not you have insurance. Being uninsured shouldn’t stop you from taking your health seriously. East Adams welcomes all patients, regardless of insurance status. When healthcare access is convenient and affordable, you are better able to catch issues early and manage your health before minor concerns become major complications.

EARH offers affordable care, from routine checkups to lab work to chronic disease care. You can access care in our walk-in clinic, mobile healthcare clinic, or by making an appointment with one of our family doctors. You’ll get the medical attention you need, and we’ll work with you to make it as affordable as possible.

Payment Options Available at EARH

We know that cost can be a major concern when it comes to getting medical care without insurance. EARH offers a range of financial assistance options to help you cover the costs. Our billing department can help you explore financial options such as:

Sliding Fee Discount Program

Based on your income and family size, you may qualify for reduced rates on medical services through our sliding fee discount program. The program applies to many types of care and is available even if you have no insurance at all.

Interest-Fee Payment Arrangements

If you can’t pay in full, we can help you set up a monthly, interest-free payment plan that works with your budget. Our billing team will work with you to understand your situation and create a manageable monthly payment so you can get the care you need without the stress.

Medicare Shared Savings Program

The Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) is a federal program that encourages healthcare providers to collaborate to improve care for Medicare patients while reducing costs. EARH participates in the program to help ensure local patients get quality, affordable care close to home.

What to Do Before Your Appointment

When cost is a limiting factor, we encourage patients to explore their financial options before their doctor’s visit if possible. Doing so allows our billing team to help you explore all of your alternatives and create payment options that work with your financial situation so you avoid any surprises. Here are some steps to help you prepare:

  1. Contact our billing office. Call EARH at 509-659-5406. We are available Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 4:30 PM. Ask to speak with someone about payment options for uninsured patients. You can get a cost estimate and learn how to apply for various financial assistance.
  2. Gather documentation. You’ll need to provide income verification to apply for the sliding fee discount and similar financial assistance programs. This may include pay stubs, tax returns, or other financial documents. Our team will let you know exactly what’s needed.
  3. Talk with your doctor. Don’t be afraid to mention cost concerns before and during your visit. Our understanding healthcare providers can work with you to find the most affordable treatment plan. They can help you prioritize what needs to be addressed first or suggest treatments that may be lower in cost.

Remember, we’re here to guide you through the process. We don’t want finances to be a barrier between you and a healthy, happy lifestyle.

You Deserve Quality Care—With or Without Insurance

Life doesn’t always go according to plan. Insurance coverage can lapse, jobs can change, and unexpected expenses can overwhelm a tight budget. But none of these things should stop you from seeing a doctor when needed.

We’ll tell you more about payment plans, discounts, and our sliding fee program. We’re here to answer your questions and help you get the care you need.
