Summary:
The Medical Assistant—Certified (MA-C) or, in limited circumstances, Medical Assistant—Registered (MA-R) is a key member of the clinic care team, providing direct support to providers and patients to ensure safe, efficient, and compassionate care. Responsibilities include rooming patients, obtaining vital signs, assisting with examinations and procedures, carrying out provider orders, and performing tasks within their respective scope of practice, such as medication administration for MA-Cs. Medical Assistants also maintain accurate documentation in the electronic health record (EHR), ensure charts and records are up to date, and facilitate smooth clinic operations by managing supplies and supporting front office functions when needed. This role requires strong communication skills, professionalism, and a commitment to patient-centered care in alignment with East Adams Rural Healthcare standards and regulatory requirements.
Essential Duties:
  • Greet and assist patients, visitors, vendors, and guests in a professional and helpful manner.
  • Room patients, obtain vital signs, and prepare exam rooms for provider use. Clean and restock rooms after visits.
  • Assist providers with examinations, procedures, and treatments within the scope of practice of an MA-C or MA-R, as applicable.
  • Collect specimens (e.g., urine, fecal, swabs) and perform CLIA-waived laboratory testing as delegated by a provider.
  • Perform EKGs and other diagnostic tests within scope as delegated by a provider.
  • Remove sutures and staples as delegated by a provider.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic health record (EHR), including patient care, procedures, and follow-up actions.
  • Make patient phone calls as directed by the provider (e.g., test results, instructions, care reminders).
Medication Administration (per Washington State scope of practice):
  • MA-C: May administer medications by oral, topical, rectal, intradermal, subcutaneous, intramuscular, and inhalation routes, including vaccines, as ordered and delegated by a provider.
  • MA-R: May administer medications by oral, topical, rectal, nasal, eye, and ear routes, and pre-measured unit-dose inhalation treatments, as ordered and delegated by a provider.
 
Job Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program (for MA-C).
  • Current Washington State Medical Assistant–Certified (MA-C) license in good standing required.
  • In limited circumstances, a Washington State Medical Assistant–Registered (MA-R) may be considered if approved by the Clinic Manager and Chief Clinical Officer, with the understanding that duties are restricted to MA-R scope of practice.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Employees are responsible for maintaining all required licenses and certifications (MA-C or MA-R and BLS) in active status and in good standing throughout employment.
  • Must work within Washington State MA-C or MA-R scope of practice, as applicable.
Wage: MA-C $22.53-$29.40 DOE
            MA-R $20.67-26.97 DOE
